Endless Tweaking Does Not Mean Endless Improvement

Does this sound familiar? You wake up in the morning and decide to color-correct a few images. Then the coffee is ready, so you take a break.

When you come back to the images, they don’t look as you remember, so you correct a bit more. Then the phone rings and you spend some time with a client .

Again, you come back for further tweaking. The process repeats throughout the day, with the images never looking quite right or consistent with what you did earlier.

Consistency is one of the most difficult aspects of image correction. Your environment, monitor, and eyes all vary throughout the day, making “correct” a moving target.

At POST, we take a number of precautions to ensure consistency. We correct images in long, uninterrupted sessions; we edit in a controlled environment; and we calibrate monitors regularly.

If you struggle with consistency, or just spend too much time re-correcting the same images, it’s time to get serious about how you correct.

Quick-Tip: Monitor calibration is key to consistent color. Learn the basics of monitor calibration here.

Quick-Tip: For more information on editing in a controlled environment, see our article about editing in the dark.
